Why “FEU ORT”?

With his previous project nn_a_n_y, Yann Maenner led a sonic exploration, experimenting dense compositions through a hybrid and innovative electro. He set up a 5-piece live band to play this music (2 drums / flugelhorn / guitar / bass). The music then moved towards large, dreamlike instrumental pictures. Link to nn_a_n_y

Today, no more experimenting! FEU ORT / the place of fire / is a new beginning, a platform for freer expression. After producing an EP in his bedroom, a music video, a live session, playing several concerts and participating in a remix EP alongside Arthur Hnatek, he is using a Talent and Creativity grant from Casino Barrière to record an 8-track studio album in early March 2025 with Justine Tornay (J.NUNN) and Arthur Routaboul (Ace Ross). Currently in post-production, the project will release some of the tracks in two EPs in December 2025 and May 2026, before releasing the album on vinyl in September 2026.

Between stylistic evolution, change of formation, favorable agenda and the fact that it was a real pain to write, it is time for "nn_a_n_y" to sediment its fertile ashes to make FEU ORT flourish.

The music of FEU ORT

Long passionate about sound effects, Yann has long focused his compositional approach on hybrid timbres. After recording and producing numerous tracks alone in his bedroom, he slowed down his production activities at the end of 2021 to focus on his work as a performing musician. By playing and participating in the arrangement of numerous concerts, he enriches his vision as a composer.

Deeply inspired by the concerts of Weval at Fri-Son at the end of 2023, Roisin Murphy and LCD Soundsystem in Paris in the summer of 2024, he begins a composition residency in the fall of 2024. Inspired by these concerts, he wishes to articulate his electro compositions around simple but meticulously crafted sonic and musical objects. He patiently sharpens the relationship between his sounds, chosen notes and effects, until he obtains indivisible musical objects. Mixing this research into synthesis with more organic sounds such as voices, bass lines and drums, he seeks a sensitive balance to create music as powerful and precise as it is warm and human.

With this in mind, he surrounded himself with two of his best friends, Justine and Arthur, to accompany him in the creation of this music. Bringing their interpretations to Yann's compositions, they take a collective dimension.
